February Tip - Flower Ribbons

Here’s a quick and easy way to make flowers out of ribbon (like the ones on my “Love” mini book):

Supplies:

Needle

Embroidery Floss (or thread)

Ribbon

Scissors

How To:

1.      Do a simple “running stitch” across one edge of your ribbon.  Be sure to leave at least an inch or so of a tail.  There is no need to knot the floss.

2.      Pull the ribbon towards the tail so that it scrunches up along the floss.

3.      When you’re satisfied that you have enough to curl into a circle, stop sewing and cut the ribbon at the end of your stitching.  Knot the two ends of the floss.  Twice.

4.      Take a few stitches up the “petals” to firmly join the two ends of the ribbon.  You can tie a knot here or not.  It’s up to you.

NOTE: I like it when the knots and stitches are visible.  But, if you don’t, you can use thread the same color as your ribbon and hide everything on the backside of the flower.

5.      To create the flower centers, I simply placed a button on top of foam adhesive in the center of the flower.
